My trackday at the Hockenheimring with the Pistenclub was a thoroughly successful experience – from the relaxed journey to the final stint on the track. Thanks to the short distance of only 130 kilometers, I could travel stress-free and look forward to the day from the start.

The professional organization of the Pistenclub was already evident upon arrival. Registration went smoothly, and all important rules and safety instructions were clearly communicated during the driver's briefing. Particularly positive was the constant support from the helpers, who were always ready to assist with advice and action.

The first stint took place on a wet track, which gave me the opportunity to carefully get to know the track and the slippery conditions. But soon the sky cleared up, and the next four stints could be completed under bright sunshine and perfect conditions. The atmosphere on track was excellent: most participants followed the briefing instructions, ensuring a fair and safe driving experience. Lap by lap, I gained more confidence – sometimes maybe a bit too optimistic when delaying the braking points. But especially at the Hockenheimring, that's not a problem, thanks to the generous run-off areas in critical spots. Once again, it confirmed for me: the Hockenheimring is ideal for beginners and newcomers to trackdays. The layout is clear, and the available run-off zones provide the necessary sense of safety to improve step by step.

As a Porsche Taycan driver, I particularly appreciate the excellent charging infrastructure at the Hockenheimring. Just about 200 meters from the pit, at the Porsche Experience Center, there are six high-performance chargers (HPC) with up to 320 kW charging power. I was able to charge my battery to over 80 percent in less than 20 minutes – perfect to be ready again between stints. On wet surfaces, one battery charge was easily enough for two stints, which made planning even more relaxed. While charging, I could also adjust the tire pressure, so no valuable time was lost.

Everything was also taken care of off the track. Lunch was not only delicious but also a great opportunity to exchange with other participants. The relaxed atmosphere and shared passion for driving made the breaks a highlight of the day. All in all, it was a thoroughly enjoyable day – with plenty of driving fun, top-notch organization, and a great community. The Pistenclub once again proved why it is one of the best providers of trackdays. I can hardly wait to join again – maybe with even more laps and new challenges!

Until the next trackday!

"From the Console to the Racetrack"

A conversation with passionate sim racer and Pistenclub member Stefan Wagner.

Great to have you with us! To start, tell us a little about yourself: How old are you and where are you from?
I’m 40 years old and from the beautiful Wetterau region in Hesse. I’m deeply rooted there – and just as deeply involved in motorsport now.

What should we definitely know about you?
I’ve been a handball coach for over 20 years – that’s my big passion besides motorsport. I originally started out as a sim racer, but now I’m drawn more and more to real racetracks. The step from virtual to real driving was a very special one for me – and it’s addictive!

Since when have you been part of the Pistenclub?
I officially joined at the beginning of 2025 – so I’m quite new.

How did you hear about the Pistenclub?
Through friends who have been members for a while. They highly recommended it – and they were right!

Do you remember your first event with the Pistenclub?
Yes, very clearly. It was on March 22, 2025, at the Hockenheimring. An experience I won't forget anytime soon.

How many trackdays do you plan per year?
In recent years, I’ve averaged about five trackdays a year. But I definitely want to do more – I’m motivated to hit my personal "record season"!

Do you have a favorite track?
In sim racing, definitely the Nordschleife – a true legend but also a ruthless track. In real life, my current favorite is the Hockenheimring. It’s technically challenging but not as unforgiving. And as a Taycan driver, the perfect charging infrastructure is a big plus. That’s gold!

What was your first car?
An Audi A3 8L with a 1.8-liter naturally aspirated engine and 125 hp. Solid and reliable – a great introduction to the car world.

Was that also your first track car?
No, my first trackday car was my second one: a yellow Audi S3 in Imola yellow. That one had much more punch and was a real blast on track.

And what are you driving now?
Currently, I’m driving a Porsche Taycan – both on track and for everyday use. It balances performance and daily usability perfectly.

Did you modify your car for the track?
Yes, I use Endless brake pads and a special wheel and tire setup that I use only for the journey and the track. This year, I definitely want to try semi-slicks – that’s at the top of my list. I do all the modifications myself – it’s part of the fun for me.

Do you also participate in motorsport outside of the Pistenclub?
Absolutely. I’ve been to various events – from rallies to DTM and Formula 1. Motorsport excites me in all its forms, whether I’m behind the wheel or watching.

And what’s been your highlight so far?
Definitely the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring. I go every year – it’s the ultimate motorsport event for me. Thousands of like-minded people, the unique atmosphere, racing day and night – it gives me goosebumps every time!

Thank you for the exciting conversation! We wish you many more unforgettable trackdays.
